I am hoping that somebody has some advice about a recruiter problem I am having.
I sent my personal information/resume in an e-mail to a recruiter while looking for a job in Korea. At the time, I wanted to apply for a particular job that was posted on the job forum board. This recruiter then posted my information on the internet without my consent. This includes my picture, my home address and my resume. I ended up finding a job without the use of this recruiter yet my information is still on the internet. I am very uncomfortable with all of my private information on the internet available for all to see. I e-mailed this recruiter asking politely that she take down my information. She didnt respond. When a Korean friend phoned the recruiting company, the lady on the phone got defensive, swore and hung-up. I want my information off of the internet. What can I do? Is it legal for her to post private information from an e-mail on the internet without consent and then refuse to take it down?

I think I know this place. My resume and picture is upstill after years on one site. I was thinking of emailing and asking for the resume to be removed.

OP can you PM me the recruiter who is being difficult.

yeah, I remember finding mine up on a couple of sites over the years - I never asked politely, not at all, but sent the most demanding, angry, outraged and threatening-in-no-small-way email possible because it was totally without my permission - and both times by recruiters I hadn't even contacted!!

they took it down. one actually apologized.

I understand where you are coming from OP, but it doesn't sound like that big of a deal to me to be honest. I mean your picture is probably already all over the internet (I'm assuming you have a facebook?) and your home address is, believe it or not, already public information. Do a quick google search and you'll be surprised what you find to be public knowledge (home address, phone number, cell number, family members, employer, etc.). I'm not completely sure about the laws in Korea, but in America doing something like that and refusing to remove it would be considered rude, but not illegal. All that information (besides the resume) is already out in the open anyway.

This has happened to me before, too. I always just email and ask them to take it down. I've never had a problem with anyone refusing.

Just assume it's going to happen during an overseas teaching job search involving recruiters. They'll do whatever they can to make a buck.

It's good practice, particularly during a job search, to Google/Naver/whatever yourself and see what pops up. I do a biannual sweep to make sure that my internet presence is acceptable for potential employers to see.

I don't see what the big deal is. Why did you give them your photo if you didn't think they would post it?

of course its a big deal if its confidential information displayed against your consent.

If you go for that managerial job ten years from now then you are not going to want them finding out about your years spent at ding ding dong hogwan.

Never mind that you probably don't want people in your past peering into all the details of your life.

One would assume you had something more substantial and recent to trump any position you had 10 years ago. Otherwise, the more ding dings the better.
