I'm taking classes at Sogang right now, but can't continue this summer because of work schedule changes so I'll be taking a semester off.
If someone is currently being tutored can recommend someone decent, I'd really appreciate it.
Otherwise, for those who have used a tutor before, how did you go about finding one?
I should also probably mention that I'm in Seoul... |

I would like to strongly recommend getting tutored by the director of the
Seoul Korean Academy (김진애 원장님). Here's her academy's web site
address: http://www.seoul-kla.com/
She teaches at both the Gangnam and Jongro branches (TOPIK classes). She probably has a hectic teaching schedule, but might be able to take on a student. Classes are quite expensive (38,000/hour), but I think it's worth it if you can arrange for classes offered by the director herself. If the fee and location are OK for you, give her academy a call and see when you could drop by and talk with her about your needs.
Good luck with finding someone. |

I asked a colleague or former colleague to reccommend someone. As the colleague is a teacher, they are education oriented and understand the objective. You'll be getting a Korean native speaker who presumably is as qualified to teach Korean as you are to teach English. No?
This will likely be local and perhaps save some travel time and costs. Your colleague will perhaps make a suitable selection for you, instead of playing matchmaker. Or perhaps not. But it's always best to pay for the services to avoid the dreaded "language exchange" scenario.
However, if you are located near an institution that provides these services as a regular part of their business model, I would look very closely at that. |
