I have a Shinhan check card with a Mastercard logo. I have been traveling Asia for a bit and am now back home in the states for a couple months. I used my card for two purchases in Malaysia in March, one at a tourist attraction and the other at a hotel. Both purchases worked fine. I was unable to use my card at any ATMs in Cambodia, Thailand, and the Philippines. Also, I can't use the card here in the US. Not even to check my balance (which is all that I want to do). I don't understand why.

This is my second Shinhan check card. My first Shinhan check card that I got in 2009 had a visa logo. I used that card several times at ATMs in the Philippines and I was under the impression that I could use it at ATMs most everywhere in the world.

Does anyone know much about this? I don't need to use the card but I would like to check the balance. Whenever I try that I get a message along the lines of "transaction cannot be processed at this time." Should I just call them? Any ideas would be much appreciated.
