It's getting to the point where 70-80% of my skype calls just aren't good enough quality to bother with the calls now.

I'm wondering if this is my computer, the isp or the under sea internet pipes?

Anyone else having regular problems with skype call quality to the UK?

Even calls to Seoul on Skype haven't been working properly. I'm beginning to think it's either my isp (SK telecom) or my laptop sound card is fudged up.

Just checked my ports...

SK is blocking a huge chunk of them according to http://www.canyouseeme.org/

Do you think this could be the reason?

Agreed. Skype has been really bad to the USA in the past month, at least. My VPN has helped somewhat, but not always.

Has anyone found an alternative to Skype that does well?

Does it help if you use skype thru facebook instead?

All I know is skype on my iphone's quality has gone to utter crap over 3g. I used to talk to my brother in Philly every morning walking to work. Over the past month we have only been able to talk 4-5 times without something screwing up!

Annoyingly the issues tend to be on the weekend, which is when I want to use it the most. It really is infuriating.

I've been using Google's phone feature, along with my VPN, to make free phone calls to the USA. No quality issues there.

My father and I tried messing around with Logitech's video software, but it was still very inferior to Skype in overall quality.

Harpeau and I have gotten really great quality between our connections here in Seoul, though. Must be a problem outside of Korea?

I can send Skype in HD to my father in the US, but what I've been receiving from him has been pretty crappy as of late. We both have identical Logitech C510's, which are HD capable with Skype, so long as you have a decent CPU.

It's probably the undersea cables, bandwidth is likely stretched on high usage periods e.g. weekends and evenings.

Actually, I'm sending my dad HD video and good audio... it's receiving it that's horrible. His connection works fine to anywhere else but here.
