I'm looking at buying a rain jacket and possibly a few other things online from a US or Canadian company and I'm wondering at what price Korean Customs starts applying duties. I thought I read somewhere on here that's it's usually at 150,000won, but I can't remember. Also, is the customs duty applied to the raw cost of the item itself, or do they look at the total cost (i.e. product + taxes + shipping)? I'd just prefer to not go over the threshold and get an unexpected tax bill from them.

Thanks

Items over $120 US (150,000W) are subject to custom fees. I believe it can be taxed up to 18% of the declared cost + shipping, depending on the items and the custom agent dealing with it.

Some companies are aware of the extra duty charges and therefore will fudge the numbers on the reciept taped to the box being shipped.
There's one inparticular that I always ordered from. They were great for that. I'll PM you the name of the company.

Wow! This is good to know! Usually if you buy from EBay or something, they'll mark it as a gift and no customs~ ^.^
