Hello everyone,

I'm going to be leaving my high school teaching job with EPIK this summer because I don't want to teach elementary students. I am currently looking for jobs in Seoul, and I thought the process would be easier this time around since Im already in Korea. Something occurred to me however, will I need to resubmit the notoroized copies of my degree, get a police check, and renew my Visa back home? This will be much more difficult than anticipated if true, because the original copies of my degrees are in Canada.

Can anyone who has found new jobs while still living in Korea tell me a little bit about the process?

Thanks in advance!

You won't need a new set of documents.

Before you finish your current job, you start looking for a new one. If you find one then you submit some forms and your future employer submits some forms. There's a fee of about 60,000 Won. Then you're E2 is transferred to the new employer.

If you don't find a job or if it looks like you might not find one, then just ask immigration to transfer you to a D10. You fill out a form, pay a fee and it's done. Once you DO find a job, then you do the same thing again (with documents from your future employer) and they transfer you back to E2.

In either case, you can start working as soon as you make the transfer to the new employer. So.... no waiting period, no new documents, no visa runs.

I should clarify. The advice I gave above is valid if you are finishing the regular term of your contract.

If you are leaving your contract early then it's a different story.

My contract is up this summer (August) and if I renew my contract I will be moved to an elementary school.

Troglodyte: Yes I understood that your advice assumes I'm not bailing on my contract. Thanks for all of your great advice.

Seoul is a better place to work. My brother is working there.

Can you please give an outline of what will be required if one leaves his/her position early for a new job? I may be doing this in August. Thank you...!
