I need to withdraw cash from my English debit account (it's a VISA) and tried a few places and it says transaction failed etc. Anyone know of any places that might? I live in Busan but i imagine there'll be chains across the country.

Cheers!

Find a big bank of ATMs and there will usually be one that takes it. Look for one that says "Global ATM" or something on the sign above it, as they won't all work. KEB and Citi are a bit more likely to have international machines, in my experience. If that doesn't work, convenience store ATMs will usually work with international cards, though you'll pay a bit more.

Ironically, I could pull money from my foreign checking account using a convenience store ATM for free... I was charged for domestic debit withdrawals.

Google "visa atm korea" or similar and you should get a map or list of adresses where your card can be used, right down to the nearest block from your Ip location. Thats how I found mine.

Its still not that easy though, because there might be 1o different machines to choose from at your bank, and only one of them will work for your card.

Show your card and whatever other logos are on it to the bank attendant guy, and he will direct you to the right one.

KEB has some global atms. I used my US based visa debit there just the other day to withdraw cash. Like you, I had trouble at most other banks. However, there was one other where it also worked, but I can't remember the name.....JBL maybe?

Anyway, like KEB(not KB), it billed itself as a foreign exchange bank.

I was actually assuming on that one, and yours might be the case across the board. I know the convenience store ATMs don't tell you you're paying more, but I figured there must be some way they were getting money from me. I don't check the balance of my US account (or use it enough) to notice.

Point being, for the OP: you should be able to use your card at convenience store ATMs.
