I couldn't believe this kind of stuff still goes on. I also remember kids saying they would hawk luggies in the Hero sandwiches at Mr. Hero (for those of who know what Mr. Hero is--I loved that place). What makes it worse is I am from Cleveland and perhaps may have eaten there. You have to be a twisted individual to put the health of innocent people at risk by doing this despicable act.

Obviously you all have never worked in the food industry... the things I've seen and heard...
One time I told my boss at Baskin Robbins that we needed to change the hot caramel and wash it out because I was pretty sure there were dead/burned alive roaches in it... the answer "You can't throw away that much caramel." (I dumped it behind his back)
We had expired product (several months - a year past expiry) and my boss said we couldn't throw it away or buy new product until the old was used.
The infestation of roaches was so bad that we routinely checked the ice cream for bugs (the preferred caramel and peanut butter cup ice creams), sprayed whenever there was down time, and still had them crawling up the walls, inside cabinets, along the counters, etc, in full view of the customers...
Meanwhile, my coworkers smoked up (weed) in the industrial freezers in the back of the store...
Also, my friend's friend worked at Wendy's and said they used the industrial dishwasher as a hot tub >.< These things happen and they happen often. I don't really know why people are surprised by these stories anymore... |

Or perhaps we have worked at places better than the one you worked at. I worked at three different Wendys and an ice cream shop throughout high school and college and I never saw anything remotely disgusting. I saw kids smuggle out a sleeve of Biggie cups in the hopes that one of them had a winning prize on the bottom. I saw people snack on the food, but that's about it.
I saw a kid refuse to serve a burger that had simply been dropped on the floor while it was completely wrapped in foil. He thought it was unethical to serve it despite the burger itself never touching the floor.
Worst thing I ever saw was when a customer returned their nuggets because they found a hair. The guys took the nuggets, threw them back in the fryer for a while and re-served them.
On a side note, does anyone else remember Barth's Burgers from YCDTOTV? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F44bLc6t7-I |

Both of you are right- All the staff was too busy getting high, blasting porno on their laptop, and simply not showing up to work or drinking on the job to do nasty unsanitary stuff. But everyone did remember to wash their hands after they went out back and puffed away. |

oh, that was an awesomely terrible (or perhaps terribly awesome) show. I watched it all the time on YTV when I was a kid. |

I also worked at Wendy's for two years. I was surprised at how well the entire staff adhered to the health regulations, and never once saw anyone commit any type of violation in that regard. Even if the drive-thru customer was showing some attitude, the thought of tainting their food never seemed to enter anyone's mind (we just talked smack about them afterwards).
The only thing I found somewhat objectionable is the fact that we had to put the overdone/unservable beef patties aside and put them in a bag designated as chili meat. That was a Wendy's procedure, not our own. I wouldn't say it's unsanitary per se, but rather poor quality. |

Me too. I had an insane crush on Moose, who turned out to be very cute indeed. |

I worked at a hungry howies Pizza place (not sure if they're outside of Michigan) for 3 weeks once. The "manager" was a friend all of 17 years old. He only hired other kids from our school and i'm ashamed to say we trashed the place.
We wouldn't wash our hands, smoke cigarettes in the store, other people stole money out of the register. The worst was when a kid wadded up a golf ball size piece of dough, threw a hanful of flour in the air and yelled at us to look at it it. While we were all looking up in the air trying to figure out what happened he whipped the dough and hit a kid square in the face. It was brutal, it smacked him so hard we all felt it. He went down and was hurt pretty bad, he might have went home after that I cant remember.
I dont know why we were so destructive back then, damn kids! |

The worst instance that I remember was when a Domino's delivery guy was arrested for adding a little "special sauce" to the pizzas that he delivered. Especially for Sorority Row orders. |

I've heard "special sauce" tales from other people I know too. |

It's almost as if staffing fast food restaurants with ill-paid, poorly-treated adults and immature, irresponsible teenagers is not conducive to excellent results. No one could have predicted this. |

True, but what else are those kinds of people supposed to do for work?
And I don't think you can pay people $16 an hour to flip pizzas and make it economically viable. |
