guys,

It's almost impossible not to see one of those high voltage transmission power lines on the street of Korea..I'm currently looking to move, and there's a room that I am considering now. The only issue is that it's on the 4th floor and is about 5 metres away from the high rised 'high voltage eletrical lines'..Open there window, and there you go..these are next to the room. There are signs hanging from the lines that say 'danger - high voltage' (in Korean, 고전압).

Now, I'm not sure if I really should take the room, since I've read about all the health risks associated with living close/under those lines.. I'm planning to stay here for 3 months and possibly longer..What's your take?

I grew up in a house as a kid and it was next to a powerline. My parents assured me that nothing bad was going to happen as a result of it. Look at me now, I live and work in Korea, am married to a Korean, and have a child!

Unless you want any of these horrible things potentially happening to you, I would stay far far away from those powerlines, nothing good will come of it!!!!

Sorry I had to post that, I know it contributes nothing but I couldnt help myself. Very Happy

At first I thought it was a silly idea but after 5 minutes of research on the "Interweb" there seems to be a lot of chatter about it. Quite a few articles and posts about magnetic radiation from the wires.

Maybe there is some truth to this!

I can assure you that there is no risk living next door to power lines whatsoever. I have a big substation thing on a lamppost outside my window and it's fine. Power cables do not emit "magnetic radiation". There is no such thing as "magnetic radiation". The only "magnetic" thing around them will be a weak magnetic field that comes from having electrons moving in a wire and making current, but unless you hold your hard drive a millimetre away from it you're not going to have a problem.

It seems like human bodies can't really 'feel' the emitted radiation most of the time, if there's any...

All that stuff about power lines being dangerous is b.s.
If the place is good you should take it.
Be skeptical, and don't buy into all the woo out there!

They are really useful when it comes to drying your clothes.

PS If you're wondering if they are really harmful or not.....try to guess what happened to the previous occupant of that room. OOOOOOOOO.
