|
|
Before anyone berates me I did search the forum but couldn't find anything similar.
I was arrested, fingerprinted and had a mugshot taken when I was a minor. It was a misdemeanor.
Four years ago when I filled out an application to be a public school teacher in TX. I said I had never been arrested (two lawyers advised me to since I was a minor at the time). Some months later the school district ran an FBI background check and I was hired. I never thought about it again until now.
Today I went to HR and asked for a copy of my background check. I was told that it had been shredded. I was also told that if I had had an arrest show up they would have called me in to talk about it since I had said I had never been arrested.
So, it sounds like I'm in the clear but I still have my doubts. I guess it's because I really don't want to go to South Korea and I'm secretly hoping that this will show up and then my girlfriend and I will have to go to Thailand or Vietnam.
Anywho, I was wondering if anyone had a similar situation. |

And yes, I did send my fingerprints off to the FBI. However, I only sent them on April 17th. |

Do you know if they ran an FBI background check? I have a few friends that are teachers and had arrest records when they were adults. However, if anything does show up, you can get it expunged. |

It was most definitely an FBI background check. I've spoken to HR at my district and with the TEA (Texas Education Agency).
It just seems odd to me that I was arrested, fingerprinted and had a mug shot but it didn't show up on the background check.
Anywho, I guess if it comes back clean I wind up in the land of kimchi and whiny-ass women. And if I have a record, well then, I'll just have to sip drinks on a beach in Thailand (in between teaching a few classes) |

For what it's work I received it in the mail today. No criminal record.
I was fingerprinted and I had a mug shot but the FBI has no record of me.
Anywho, it's a moot point as my girlfriend agreed to teach in Thailand instead of Korea. |

Obviously......
It happened when you were a minor, it probably just stayed in the state records, and then was probably automatically expunged because you became an adult, and didn't commit anymore crimes. |

Didn't commit or didn't get caught...

Mainly because my girlfriend and I aren't broke and would rather teach for 6 months in Thailand (or possibly Vietnam) and then hit up an international school fair in Bangkok (we're both certified teachers from the US).
There are many folks who seem to genuinely like South Korea. I'm not one of them. Don't get me wrong, I think I could stand another year in the ROK but I would much, much rather earn less and spend some time in SE Asia. |
