I am moving to Gyeongsangnam-do pretty soon and want to go fishing a lot. I read that there are sea-ajosshis and such that will take you out on boats and provide tackle, but I really just want to fish from the shore without having to make some expensive occasion of it.
However, I have only ever fished in the Chesapeake bay and in freshwater, so I don't even know what to fish for in Korea. What kind of baits and lures do people use? What kind of fish are good to fish for? How many can I eat before I get cancer? Are there any websites with information on size and harvest limits? |

I am moving to Gyeongju in August and plan on some saltwater fishing as well. I haven't looked into SK fishing in great detail, but I do know that the variety of fish is similar to what we have here in the US.
The bait we use in Florida is: Live or Fresh dead shrimp, live saltwater minnows, big minnows cut in half, cut pieces of oily/bloody fish ie. mullett, jacks.... should work well in SK too.
If you could let me know how easy it is to access tackle that would be great. I'm tossing up bringing a rod and some tackle with me vs. buying in SK.
Hope this helps and thanks! |

OP did you end up doing this? How was it? Have you happened to venture out onto the open water? |

I went with my coworker a few weeks ago. We paid some guy twenty five bucks to drive us out to some island on his boat and drop us off there. That price also included bait. I live in Namhae, and it seems like there are bait shops and places to fish at all around the island. There are a few places in the calmer areas that rent out little floating cabins that you can fish off of.
We only caught a bunch of smaller fish that I didn't recognize, but I'm not too familiar with saltwater fish to begin with. |

Dodge7,
Pine Island is a great place. I was born in Ft. Myers and grew up in Jacksonville. I have fished all over from Boca Grande up to Panama City on the Gulf coast and from The Keys up to Jax on the Atlantic coast. |
