Hello everyone,
My girlfriend and I just got a job offer from this school and we were wondering if anyone knew anything about it. Has anyone worked there? Heard any stories about it?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

Never worked at that particular branch but did a year at a Jungchal Junior a year ago.
From my experience at the one I worked at, they are better than a lot of other hakwan chains as they at least have the computer classware for you to use and the books have about enough material for you to not have to plan to much and make too many of your own materials.
The short class times for the star and galaxy classes (you only teach them for 25 /30 mins thrice or twice a week depending if they're on a m/w/f/ or tues / thurs) makes it a pretty comfortable job, as the kids don't get bored with you after 20 mins and start yelling for another 25 mins of games. You do your LnR ex, writing and listening ex and then have ten mins left for a game of h/man, bingo, hot seat, missing game etc...
IMO these short classes stopped me getting bored and tired and even though it means on some days you have 9 classes, it's better than being stuck with a bunch of bored, spoiled K-brats for 5 - 6 classes of 45 mins.
They always paid me on time and stuck to my contract.
I went in at 2pm and left at 9.20pm every day mon - fri. They gave me dinner every day too which was a nice touch.
YMMV as with franchises it always depends on the inidivual branch owner on whether it's good or bad.
A friend of mine worked at one in Seoul and was housed in the smallest piece of real estate I have ever seen in my life, whilst I had a pretty nice one-room studio. It really differs from branch to branch.
GOLDEN RULE for HAKWANS -
ALWAYS make sure you ask the recruiter for the email or phone number of the teacher you are replacing - if they do not provide it I SERIOUSLY would never myself take the interview process one step further.
So, to sum up, I had a pretty okay year there, nothing wrong with the franchise or it's materials / contracts / class structure and schedule BUT you NEED to speak to the previous teacher or current teacher before even considering going any further. Hakwan job hunt 101, over. |
