I read on Meetup.com that there is a language exchange in Hongdae and another one in Gangnam. They are "LanguageCast" meetups.

Are they any good? By good, I mean someone willing to sit with you and help you with your Korean, or do people just talk randomly to different groups (likely all in English)?

It's okay. They have different areas set out for certain languages, but the Korean section is a bit of a free for all. From what I overheard while walking around, it ends up being mostly English. Anyhow, if you assert yourself and just stick to Korean you'll be fine.

So you don't get matched up with someone and find your own spot to study privately? You just sit with a bunch of people in a group?

They don't match you with anyone. You're free to move around. It's just casual conversation.

Although their are some foreigners who speak really well that go, I'd say the vast majority are at the beginner level. As a result most people stick to English. Anyhow, like I said as long as you stick to Korean you'll be fine.

Koreans may volunteer to practice their English. Who knows.
