If you had to pick one, which would it be? I haven't been to either, and there's a possibility I might not be in Korea that much longer so I might only have time for one.
From my understanding Seoraksan is beautiful but very crowded, and Jirisan is sort of an underrated gem. I live in Seoul so Seoraksan is much closer to me and I'm leaning towards doing that. Plus it seems like there would be more to do in the area because it's near Sokcho beach, although I'm not sure what else. Thoughts? |

I've been to both places a few times. Seoraksan is a place of tremendous beauty, but I feel like you have to work harder in terms of the area and have good luck to see it in terms of the weather. I found Jirisan to be more beautiful actually, and this time of year the azaleas are in bloom.
If you're not big on hiking, I would go to Seoraksan for its proximity to Sokcho and Ulsan Bawi, a huge rock cliff that is nervewrackingly steep with great views of the top and also the sea.
If you have any questions on how to get to either place or where to hike, I would be more than happy to assist you. Note that both places are equally doable on a normal weekend. |

Both are beautiful no doubt.
But I would suggest Jirisan simply because it is the highest point (assuming you are intending to reach the top summit) on the peninsula, and a great little notch to add to your belt of Korean experiences, having hiked the highest peak south of the DMZ (excluding Hallasan on Jeju) |

I've only been to Seoraksan, so I can at least vouch for how beautiful it is. The temple there is absolutely gorgeous. |

Baraebong is the largest habitat of royal azaleas in Korea. As spring comes around, thousands of azaleas enchantingly change the mountain to red. You can enjoy a full view of the mountain from its peak and be intoxicated with the scent of fresh grass and cool breezes.
The cost for the round trip bus fee is only 30,000 won.
We will pick-up members at Bucheon Station at 6:30 am, Jamsil at 7:00, Suwon at 7:40, Osan at 8:10.

We decided on Seoraksan / Sokcho for the reasons I mentioned above. Is there anything else of note we should check out other than Ulsanbawi Rock? |

I'll also be spending the weekend at Seoraksan National Park.
Is it to possible to do Daecheongbong Peak as a 1 day hike if staying at the hotel in the park(setting out just before dawn and returning before dusk)? |

Dinosaur Ridge and much of inner Seorak are definitely noteworthy, but I don't know much about your fitness, experience and time constraints.

There are about 14 hours of daylight these days. It really depends on just where you're staying, but I've very comfortably gone from the Osaek Spring to the top and back to Hangyeryeong (or vice versa) in 10-12 hours, with time spent napping at the top. Start early and keep an eye on the clock. You shouldn't have too many problems. |
