So I'm supposed to be leaving soon for my next gig in Korea - everything's in the bag, Visa is in my passport, however due to a SNAFU at the hagwon it's looking like I might have to back out of the position.
My question is - is my Visa still good (but needs binding to another employer) or am I going to need to process an entirely new Visa if I apply for another job?

The bad news is that you may be screwed for 90 days and up to a year depending on where you are from.
Since you never came to Korea you will have to wait until the actual visa in your passport expires. (I think US citizens still get visas with 13 month expiry dates unlike everyone else who gets 13 month sojourns and 90-day expiry dates on the actual visa).
AFTER the visa expires you are free to start again from the beginning (complete with new documentation).

Ttom,
I got an E-2 work visa in August of 2011 and pulled a midnight runner from Wonderland a few weeks ago. The FBI just billed my credit card, so I'll have my criminal background check any day now. After I finish my paperwork, will I have to wait until my work visa expires in September, or can I get a new work visa as soon as I get my paperwork finished and a contract?
Also, I read some people saying they were getting their apostilles done in Washington DC. Do I have to get mine done there, or can I still get it done in my homestate the way I did last year?

I can't answer your apostille query but I suspect that it would be the same as last year - remember, there are 50 ways to get it done - one for each state in the union.
As to the new visa ... IF you handed in your ARC as you left your visa would have been canceled and you can start again.
If you did NOT hand in your ARC your old visa would not have been canceled and you will need to wait till your old ARC expires.

Hi Tom, me again. How about if the school were to cancel the Visa somehow, would this 'clean the slate' so to speak and allow me to pursue a new one without having to wait for expiry? |

Nope.
Kimmi will not allow a new visa application while you still have an unexpired VIN or actual unexpired visa in your passport.
