|
|
Can anyone tell me how to make a collect call to North America using a pay phone with one of those red buttons? I remember that you press the red button and then punch in a code to get the nice English-capable operator, but I don't remember the code.
Any other methods you know of would be appreciated.
N.B. For anyone not from Oklahoma, a "collect call" is a call in which the receiver pays for the call. |

What is a pay phone?
I thought the red button was for an emergency and the green button was for the operator. |

The red button is used for emergencies and other things as well. I don't remember the code needed to make a collect call, a phrase that some English speakers probably aren't familiar with, but I'm not sure which ones. |

O.K guy. The red button summons the police to the phone site, which may or not be cool. The green which never works continues the call from either card or coin.
The foriegn operater assisted calls are always busy. Hit 114 babble in English, do this at dawn (your parents or whoever will love the timing) they will panic and connect you through the log jam to the foreign operator.
Then you have to hope that the phone will work. Only go to the phone booths that have foriegn country codes on the window. These are hard to find these days. The modern looking ones won't make calls as you are trying. You want a card phone, foreign dialing codes on the wall and be sure you have a phone card for say at least 3,000 won because it will take forever to get this accomplished.
Good luck! |

Pressing the red button followed by 0077 did not work in Cheongju or Seoul this weekend. So I don't think it's the code I was looking for. Anyone else have any other ideas? |

Whenever I want to make a collect call to the US from a pay phone, I just put in 100won and dial 0072911 to connect to AT&T. You just dial the number you want then you have a computerized option of calling card, credit card, or collect or you can get operator assistance. |

I discovered that 0072911 also works after pressing the red button on the other type of phone; so if you find yourself without a 100 won coin, then there you go. |
