Hello All,

I am moving to Korea at the end of June 2012 (2 months from now). I have a question related to travel and dogs-- hopefully someone can help!

Background: I am an American living and working in Thailand (I've been out here for the past year and a half). When I moved to Thailand, I brought my American (!) dog with me. She is up to date on all of her vaccines, and pending a recent blood test, she is in good health.

Okay, so my questions:
1.) has anyone else brought their dog/cat/anaconda (hah) with them to Korea?
2.) if so, did you have to contact Korea's customs office for permission? Aside from vet-related procedures, did you have to do any paperwork? (this was the case for Thailand, but I am having a harder time figuring out S. Korea's rules on pets)
3.) what is it like to be a dog owner in Korea? Is it difficult to find and secure housing? Are there dog parks? Hiking? What are good living locations for dog owners to consider?

Lastly, leaving my dog behind or shipping her back to the States is not an option. So take that Naysayers! Hahaha

Any advice that people could offer would be most beneficial. Smile

Thanks everyone!

I took my dog from Korea to Canada last spring. I brought him back to Korea this spring from Canada.

1. This is the official site with the information you need for getting your dog into Korea.

2. Your first question is where do you plan to stay with your dog after arriving here, if you don't have housing already prepared? You won't be able to just go to a hotel and expect them to take you and your dog.

3. Housing - some places won't accept pets but generally speaking you shouldn't have a problem finding a place that will accept them.

4. Ilsan - where I live - dogs are becoming common place. They seem to be everywhere now and there are vets all over the place. I can't speak for every place in Korea though. Seoul has a number of vets as well and open spaces. There are lots of parks but generally you won't be allowed to legally let your dog run free.

Hope this helps.
