"South Korea surrenders to creationist demands"

http://www.nature.com/news/south-korea-surrenders-to-creationist-demands-1.10773

Does anyone else have any more information on this? What was actually removed? What remains? With what was it replaced?

Quote:
According to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST), of the seven science textbook publishers, three of them have decided to concede to the petition that called the depiction of the evolution of horse is the product of imagination. Chonjae Education publishing house decided to replace the evolution of the horse with the evolution of the whale and the rest decided to remove the reference altogether.

http://www.koreabang.com/2012/stories/evolutionary-theory-to-disappear-from-science-textbooks.html

Most telling perhaps is this:

Quote:
The professor of genomics at Seoul National University Jang Dae-ik said the problem is that the writers of the science textbooks have neglected the new materials on the theory of evolution over the several decades. It even contains the references to Ernst Haeckels recapitulation theory (ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny, get it?) which has been disproven a long time ago. This kind of lapse in up-to-date knowledge invites such an attack [from the CREIT].

3 of 7 textbook manufacturers succumbed to the pressure, and at least one of them had the sense to update their decades-old information rather than just delete it entirely. Hopefully this will shine a light on the not-entirely-uncommon misinformation present in Korean textbooks.

Great. Its about time they removed their propoganda from western textbooks as well. Darwins finches, perrered moths, four-winged fruit flies, haeckels embryos, the miller-urey experiment, etc.

All of it distortions and lies designed to brainwash young children into the ape cult.

wow...such alluring alliteration.
Are you cool on consonance?
Be careful not to make an assonance out of your designer. Wink

Koreans do not believe they came out of Africa, nor do the Chinese for that matter. They tend to believe they are from some undiscovered humanoid. DNA proof that yes, we are all the same "humans" has been quite shocking to Asians, and is why they still don't buy into the science.

Hey Cosmic Dum,
You want to believe that you descended(ascended?) from the brute go ahead. It shows in your logic. Keep up the terrible job defending your faith.

I'm much more satisfied with the idea of being related to an ape than being created from dirt.

Theory of evolution don't fit too nicely with the fundamentalist Christian agenda in Korea

Funny how everytime you spout crap and when someone challenges it, you tuck your tail and find an excuse to run.

we can at least trace our linage back to our ape ancestors.

Really? U got a picture of granny gibbon on the mantelpiece then?

U must have some interesting family gatherings around the banana tree.

You have been consistently lied to I'm afraid. The only lineage humans can trace...is to other humans. The ape-men fantasy does not stand up to close scrutiny... it is a figment. Have a look at the other thread.
