Though indirectly, SBS has responded. Today, I was surprised to see SBS ask a Filipina woman her views on the Okra this season during regular coverage regarding vegetables & crops here. It was only a brief questioning, and there were no signs that they were attempting to make the woman into a "foreinger" token or some strange freak of nature--they really did just focus on what she thought as a person working at an okra farm; she was presented as a normal person answering a normal question--IN KOREAN. There were no undue exaggerations--she was 100% treated no different than if they would have been interviewing an ethnically Korean national (except for the written tag that mentioned that she's from the Philippines).
Thanks SBS--We're watching! (I'll look for the news episode today and post it here when they put it on their homepage.)

| I love okra! Where can you buy it in Korea? Maybe I havent looked very hard, but I've never seen it before. |

that's great Rchristo, now maybe you can go back to the West and put some southeast Asians on your TV in Scotland since I've never seen one in all the years I've lived in the West and maybe you could even have one as a friend (never seen that either). |

Oh please, Asian foreigners are urban ciphers in the West, shunted off to foreigner/minority ghettos. Please tell the truth and stop propagandizing. Really, why would a Westerner spend time with yet another foreigner who can't speak English? And I don't have to go out to see that on TV it's very rare to see or hear foreigners, except as statistics or in a very negative light. I'm NOT even criticizing the West actually, I'm just pointing out we really should, or someone should stop the propagandizing. |

How about Manny Pacquiao? He's often on TV in Scotland. When you say that you've never seen something in 'the West,' exactly which area are you referring to? As another poster asked, do watch Scottish TV? |

You mentioned Scotland so let's stick to your original point. Let's turn on our Scottish tv. Hey, it's the news. Shareen Nanjiani (Scottish/Asian) news anchor since 1987. Let's watch some Scottish comedy. Still Game. And look it's Sanjeev Kohli playing Navid. Now Scotland is pretty small so they struggle for drama. How about Doctor Who, after all David Tennant is Scottish. Oh, look! Martha, played by Freeman Agyeman, is kissing the doctor. And Mickey, Noel Clarke, is Rose's boyfriend. That's two relationships right there that have people of different ethnicities.
Your points are ignorant and show a lack of understanding. Have you ever been to Scotland or did you just think nobody would call you on your bs?

Not getting your point. When you say Asian foreigners in the West, what exactly do you mean? For example, does a third-generation Pakistani living in the UK fit in your paradigm? |

But in all seriousness, I've met a lot of Koreans (people) like him. They don't hang out with people, don't make any real attempts to integrate into society, and end up whining that it's because he or she is Korean/not-conformist/too cool/whatever and reaffirm their prejudices. |

It's kind of hilarious. A lot of my closest friends are Asian kids; would komerican see us walking down the street and assume that I'm faking or resenting my friendship with them? That I'm trying to be PC? |
