I'm looking to invest in my first DSLR camera. I'm looking at the Nikon 5100. I am also looking to buy a 50mm prime and a 55-200mm zoom. Would it be a better deal to by it in America and have it brought over (family coming in August)? Or are there good shops here in Korea? Suggestions?

I would recommend checking out the Tech section in this forum.

For a DSLR camera though, you should head to Namdaemun. They have tons of shops all grouped together so you can negotiate prices a little better.

My impression is that cameras, like just about everything else, are more expensive in Korea than they are in the States. It may be that the listed price is high, but you can bargain them down to being much cheaper, but the listed prices that I saw at Namdaemun were much higher than those I've seen in the States.

I have the Nikon D3100, and I've used the D7000 a lot. It's a great series, and you really can't go wrong if you go for the D5100.

I went through it and although some of the tech has changed (more megapixels in the camera and model numbers) nothing else has.
