My alien card expires the same day my contract ends. I have heard that I get 14 days to exit the country without any additional paperwork but I am not sure. I have called the immi hotline and not surpisingly got 2 different answers. If 100% need be I can take some time off to go ask in person, but that would be an understandable hassle for my school. Anyone have any info on this? Thank you in advance.

The day your alien registration card expires is the day that you are supposed to be out of the country by. The 14 days is what you get if you quit or lose your job and your visa is cancelled.

The same exact thing happened to me, unfortunately I had to get permission from my principal to leave one day earlier than the expiration of my contract.

What you are going to have to do is go to immigration and get an extension which will be easy to do. I wouldn't just pay the fine because it might effect your obtaining another visa.

There are two options.

One a work extension. Basically you sign another contract for a set time. Takes some more paperwork and few more hassles.

Or

You can do a basic extension, which you can stay up to 30 days more. But... you can not work. It allows you to wrap up loose ends you need. You will need proof of your exit via a plane ticket or ferry ticket.

So get yourself to the immigration office. Or you can try getting it online.

Look for "Extension of stay for registered foreigners" at
http://www.hikorea.go.kr/pt/CvlapplInfoPageR_en.pt?locale=en&cvlapplGbSeq=65

Do not overstaying past the date ON your ARC. You risk fines and black marks on your record that can make life really difficult.

You can also transfer to an D10. That gives you more time, during which you can look for a new job and then switch back to an E2.

You should apply for it about 2 weeks before your contract finishes.
