Hello guys
I'm in the process of interviewing with two schools currently. One in Anyang, Gyonggi-do, and one in Gangseo-gu, Seoul.
I'm excited about the prospect of both of them, but I have one question: if I want to be able to head out on the weekends to Itewon (specifically) how does one manage to get home if the last subway train is at maybe 1am but the clubs don't pick up until 3am?
Just stay up all night desperately waiting for the first trains to start running? Are there very cheap guest houses in Seoul? How does getting home from nightlife work if you don't live exactly in the neighborhoods where the 'cool kids' hang out?
Thanks. |

I expect you will get flamed for this.
But to answer your question....yes, wait until the subway opens or carpool in a taxi with friends to cut down on the cost of the fare.
And what is "nightlife work"? |

both of those places to itaewon are going to be a MAJOR pain in the rear.
if you plan on doing this every weekend you might want to seriously reconsider finding a job in.... itaewon.
however if you are going to rough it out you'll have to wait until the first trains start running. lucky for you that seoul nitelife doesn't really ever end before the trains start running. if you run out of juice then you can just pay a few chun won and sleep in a jjimjilbang.
all in all, you might want to look for some "cool kids" in your own neighborhood because that commute each weekend would be a killer. |

in this case X is "getting home from nightlife"

Depending on where you are in Anyang, a cab can be less than 20,000 from Itaewon or Hongdae, and really shouldn't be any higher than 30,000. Just find a buddy to cab with, there are tons of people in Anyang who go every weekend. From Pyeonchon Station it's about 45 minutes on the train to Itaewon and 50 minutes or so to Hongdae (Sangsu). It's a little farther than it ideally would be, but it's really not that bad. |

Some advice...
If you like to go out every weekend, look for another school that is closer or in the nightlife areas.
Last year I lived in PNU in Busan but liked to go party in Seomyeon, KSU, and Haeundae and getting back to my apartment was a pain and expense.
From now on, I will not take a job unless it is within a 10 dollar cab ride home from the nightlife area. |

Where in Gangseo-gu?
If you are on the east side, hongdae is about 6-8 bucks in a cab |

I live in Itaewon and work in Gangseo. It's only about a 40 minute commute (to my specific workplace). I can't imagine the cab being more than 20k. |

The Gangseo position was filled. This is helpful advice though guys, thank you.
It's so hard to tell how exactly living in a certain place is before you get there! |

You can stay at the jimjilbang on Hooker Hill in Itaewon. Yes, it sounds sketchy as $#@! but it's actually quite a nice jimjilbang inside.
Eight thousand won gives you a locker to keep your stuff in, a cubby hole to sleep in, and a hot shower in the morning.
My friends and I do that occasionally when we don't want to spend money on a cab or are too tired to stand waiting for a cab. Sometimes getting a taxi can be tricky, depending on when you're leaving Itaewon or where you're headed.
Also, I like to go out for brunch the next morning in Itaewon or HBC! |
