Does switching from E2 to D2 visa affect ARC# or accounts?

I've tried searching through though D-2 threads but didnt see an answer.

When someone switches to a different visa in Korea, does their ARC number change?

More specifically, does it affect their accounts (phone bills, utilities, bank accounts, credit cards)?

I'm asking because I think my credit cards are linked to my ARC card's number. I'm worried that if I switch to a D-2 visa that my Korean credit cards will all be cancelled.

Indeed no and no. I left at the end of an E2 knowing I was coming back 4 months later on a D2 and just slotted right back in. Now on an E7 and the same thing happened again. I don't know if it's possible to be assigned a different number e.g. if you change passports, but it certainly seems to be the intention that you keep the same one. I've made sure to write my existing / previous number on any immigration forms to be on the safe side.

Well I would prefer to keep my ARC#. My concern though is that my credit cards will be cancelled while switching from an E-2 to a D-2. Did you have any problems with this?

No problems at all IME. I was also able to access and use online banking (KEB) while out of the country during the gap between visas. Everything stays active unless you cancel it - maybe if something is dormant for a long time there might be an issue but there certainly isn't an automatic cutoff.

In the past 3 years I've gone from E2 -> No visa -> D2 -> Tourist -> No visa -> E7 but nothing (banking, phone, internet, car insurance, ARC no. etc) was affected or interrupted at any point.

Again, the gov'mint wants you to keep the same ARC no. too. When you go to immi here for registration after you get back with the new visa do make sure to point out your existing number, but it really shouldn't be an issue.

The only time your ARC number should change is if you change your country of citizenship:
ie: a dual citizen UK/NZ) gets an E2 on a UK passport then next time around uses their NZ passport to apply for a visa the ARC number would change.

If you simply get a new passport then your ARC number would remain the same regardless of visa class or period in between visas.

I got a new ARC card after being out of the country for 3 years, so it may expire at some point
