apparently has been there for a week
it's being reported by the Chinese govt as "straw burning"
would be funny if not so horrifically off the mark
interesting it's also said the Chinese want the U.S. to stop reporting on air quality issues in Beijing -

and just in case you don't agree that it's straw burning, better not post it on the internet (in China) or else they'll come for you

The official Sina Weibo account of the Wuhan police posted an announcement this morning saying that two internet users had been detained for spreading rumors that claimed that yesterday's pollution had been caused by a "chlorine leak at a chemical plant" or "an explosion at a steel refinery."

Free speech violations in China ... who'd a thunk it?
That's if those 'two internet users' existed. I think it's beyond Wuhan's police force to do that. As to the pollution; I lived in Wuhan for a year and it was like that every weekend. I had a cough for 4 months, you could never see across the river, not the most healthy city. |

The cleanest the air has been in South Korea in all the years I've been here was when the Chinese government shut down factories in Beijing during the period of a few weeks before and after the 2008 Olympics. You could actually see the different layers of clouds. |

I'll second that one.
What an absolute difference that made.
Good call. |
