I was thinking about getting my Doctorate or PhD My goal was to find something that I could do part-time (while working) via distance learning. Since Im Canadian I would prefer a Canadian university, but am open to American ones, too. Walden University (an American uni) was suggested to me. Basically you can do the whole thing online, but the prices made me think twice about furthering my education. One course was almost $5000 US. Is this normal? I did some research into some Canadian universities and found the Brock, Windor and Lakehead have a joint program that is offered online and in class (in class during summer semesters only) which makes it possible for me. The prices are kind of vague though. I guess Ill have to call them to find that out
I guess my question is Has anyone done their PhD? If so, what is the price range? I was quoted about $50,000 US from Walden. Also has anyone done their PhD or Doctorate via distance learning from Korea. Ideally Id like to pursue something in an education related field. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.^^ |

The University of Calgary offers an Ed.D that is primarily on-line:
Currently, the Doctor of Education (EdD) online program requires two weeks of face-to-face study in the first year of program, and two weeks in the second year of program at the University of Calgary campus.
All other specializations in the MEd degree online, the Graduate Diploma online, and the Graduate Certificate online can be completed entirely online without coming to campus.

Assuming no funding the costs are: CAD $11, 110 per year for the first 3 years (you can complete in 3), $11.2K more if you go to the 4th and $4000 per year thereafter should you not complete in 4.

Thanks ttompatz^^ This is exactly what i was looking for. For the Doctorate in Education (Senior Leadership in K-12)... It looks like 1 course per semester (with the exception of summer months). That seems very manageable. And the price, assuming it's completed in a timely manner is affordable. Do you have any experience with the programs there? If so, did you find you were able to work study and still have somewhat of a life?^^ |

One of my undergrad degrees was from UofC.
Both of my masters (one .Ed related) and my ABD (not .Ed related) were from BC universities. All of them were in-class and not distance.
I am also looking at the Ed.D from UofC which is why I mentioned it.
