Don't take it personally. I also thought I was a strong candidate, and also had experience working in schools, and I wasn't even offered an interview. They received over 2,000 applications within the first few weeks of opening hiring for the fall, but they only have roughly 500-800 positions to fill.

Sign up for as many recruiters as possible, a lot of them work directly with public schools. The process kind of sucks and can be really time consuming, but it is what it is. Of the ones I've been using, I've found Korvia (for GEPIK), Korean Horizons, and Teach ESL Korea to be great. All three work with public and private schools. Teach ESL Korea found me a GEPIK public school position within about two weeks after signing up with them. I'm sure Korvia & Korean Horizons would have found me a public school position within the next few weeks if I had waited.

Well that's disheartening. I have almost identical credentials (add in the handsome part too). I was in EPIK two years ago and was going to apply again, but seems like they've gotten a lot tighter and you have to apply WAY early. Or so I've been told.

I wouldn't take it personally. I honestly think they just have more people than they need and they cut corners everywhere.

Too bad the real world doesn't have any real jobs... At least in America...

Insert extremely sad face here.

It's worth a shot. Can't go into it with that attitude though.

It's been on the forum before. All that means is that you can't work in a public school in Seoul probably Seoul Metro as well. Contact a private non-EPIK recruter for public schools outside of Seoul and your application process for a Korean job will resume again. I personally would not advise anybody have anything to do with EPIK or GEPIK unless they absolutely have to work in the Seoul or Seoul Metro area anyway.

When did you send your application in? Even if you did get it in early, there's this to consider:

But we can come out of it with that attitude, can't we? Wink

Don't stress too much about it. There could be a variety of reasons why they didn't hire. Some legitimate some not much. It is now June and if you applied late that could be one reason. Also, I think they are pretty set that aplicants already have their documents in hand like Apostilled CBC and Degree as they know this takes time and could possibly be an issue if an applicant doesn't have them in time causing a delay in the VISA process or a teacher backing out. There are plenty of other jobs out there. Also, try and check Work n Play and Waygook.org They often have job posts where public schools are hiring a teacher directly. Anyways, good luck and don't worry too much about it. Smile

Fortunately, credentials don't matter much. Hell, they might even see the OP as overqualified and a risk of leaving the contract early for something better.
