DC autonomy bill pulled after Paul amendments
Quote: |
One Paul amendment would require the District to allow residents to obtain concealed weapon permits for handguns, and would require the city to honor permits issued to residents of other states. Another amendment would make the District establish an office for the purpose of facilitating the purchase and registration of firearms by DC residents, in response to reports that there is only one licensed gun dealer in the city.
Paul has also submitted an amendment to codify the city-funded abortion ban. The prohibition a continuing source of frustration for local leaders that is strongly supported by anti-abortion groups has been extended via appropriations bills every year that Republicans have controlled one or both chambers of Congress since the mid-1990s.
Paul proposed another amendment saying membership in a labor organization may not be applied as a precondition for employment in the District, and protecting employees from discrimination on the basis of their membership status in a union.
I think its a good way to call attention to some issues that have national implications, Paul said in an interview Tuesday. We dont have [control] over the states but we do for D.C. |
Mr. Small Limited Federal Government? Uh huh, sure. |

I'm not 100% sure what you think is hypocritical here. The Federal government controls Washington D.C. directly, there is no State government to cede power to. Beyond that, these are all policies that Paul has advocated:
Concealed-carry
Preventing unions from bullying workers
Barring publicly funded abortions
And that seems to be exactly what he proposed with the amendments! |

actually he is still consistant. It's not the government's job to bail people out from natural disasters with tax money according to the constitution.

I don't agree with his politics at all, but I fail to see the inconsistency here. |

People who claim they want small government, including so called 'Libertarians' like Ron Paul, actually just want the same big government to do what they want instead. Yeah yeah, small government. But one that still controls women's bodies. And prevents gays from getting married. And arms a police force to protect the rich at the cost of the poor. And.... |

I'm pretty sure you're thinking of the current system, which establishes regulations and policies which explicitly favor the absolute top, biggest companies and financial institutions.
Libertarians aim for a level playing field, something the U.S. hasn't seen in a very long time. |

This.
Governments are instituted among men to empower the controlling factions to pass laws that favor their interests and jail/execute those who dare to defy their 'sacred' laws.
Big and Small have nothing to do with it.
The current iteration of 'small' government is simply foofaraw for turning government over to the corporations. |

I'm pretty sure libertarians like Ron Paul want separation of state and economy, just as we had separation of church and state before. It's just that coming out and saying it right now is suicide. |

Interesting.
I see his ideas as exactly the opposite of your view. I see him backing the union of state and big business. Further, I see his alliance with social conservatives as a tactical, not a strategic, alliance in order to gain his highly destructive objective. |

Yeah but that's because you have literally no clue what you're talking about. All you ever do is blather on about nonsense, and when it comes to the above you couldn't be more wrong...
It would be impossible for you to back up your absurd claims about Ron Paul (ie. him backing the union of state and big business, a la Obamney) with even a single shred of evidence, because there isn't any. His voting record in congress is crystal clear and proves the exact opposite of what you've said. |
