Hey, I need to get a criminal background check done to renew my visa, which is expiring soon. Immigration said that they would give me a 3 month extension while I waited for the check IF I submit a receipt that shows that the FBI is processing the request.

I am not sure how to get this - my friend who recently submitted the check said that the FBI did not give any confirmation of receipt.

My first idea was to use Fedex tracking to confirm, but immigration said that they would only accept confirmation from the FBI.

Does anyone have experience with this?

I have been searching for this question on the forums, and found this thread, in which someone had a similar issue:
http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=200158

Unfortunately, there was no resolution to the problem in the thread, which is why I am posting this now. Ideas/advice are appreciated.

If you've paid with a credit card, perhaps you can log onto your online credit card statement and print it off, showing the FBI billed you.

It may take a while to get the actual CRC after you get billed though. They billed me on May 21st and still haven't sent mine to me.

You can e-mail the FBI records dept. .
The address is [email protected]. .
Ask them if they have recieved your request.
You may have to e-mail a few times. (if they haven't recieved it yet)

When they do acknowledge that they have it , through e-mail ,
print that out . Take it to immi.

There you go .

I don't think they will confirm it is in their possession until they have cashed the payment. I believe that is when it is entered into their system. It took them roughly 6 weeks before I saw it show up on my account. That was one month ago. It took another two weeks for the processing to finish.

I have heard some calling their Congressperson to expedite the processing. You may want to check into that.
