Is anyone else horrified at what they are doing to the second season? At this stage I am only watching it for Theon Greyjoy, because quite frankly I have no idea where they are going with all the changes from the books they have made. I suppose the changed Qarth scenes make a little bit of sense as they were quite stagnant in the book, but stealing the dragons? That's just wrong on so many levels, it introduces this weakness, I mean, the dragons could have been stolen ages ago, but it's such a weak plot device that there is a reason it did not happen in the books.
Well, I don't want to go into too many details about all the changes as it would end up in too many spoilers for people that haven't read the books, but what a disappointing season. |

I haven't been let down by HBO writers so far, and if Martin trusts them, then I will too. I don't like them leaving out the Reeds, or where they're taking the whole Bran storyline, but it's too early to be sure. I have hope they're going to do this right. |

I'm a bit torn. On the one hand, a lot of the stuff they're doing elicits big eye rolls from me, as it really doesn't seem to fit within the books, in spirit or letter. On the other hand, by the end of the fifth book Martin had become his own worst enemy with about twice as man viewpoint characters as he needed, some of which were totally pointless and left one wondering if he was just trying to stretch out the book. I'm hoping that the changes the TV writers are introducing are being done to simplify the story somewhat, and avoid the plot megadisaster that Martin has created. |

You have to see the TV show in its own right without constantly checking to see if it matches the books. Its only an adaptation and the books are still there, no matter what changes are made it wont detract from GRRM's original story.
I like how I dont know whats going to happen next for some characters, or at least not know exactly.
Plus some changes have been for the better, especially for Dany. Her storyline in Qarth was painfully dull in the books. |

Just on the second season's merits alone (not comparing it to the book series), I feel let down. I was completely hooked on the first season, but after 8 episodes I still haven't gotten into the second season at all. |

I think they've done a fairly good job of adapting what would be an incredibly hard to adapt series of books into a TV show. The large number of characters and locations in the book means that some changes would have been necessary. That said though, I don't particularly like the Robb Stark subplot at the moment. |

I don't get why Shea and Robb's love interest are foreign in the show. The changes they made with those two characters really seemed to further complicate the plot, not simplify it. |

The theft of the dragon is the only change which madne confused. I welcome other changes which makes things clearer and speeds up the storyline in parts where little happens. |

I agree. When I read Clash of Kings, there were whole chapters that I just skimmed through because they were just too boring. I loved reading Game of Thrones. but the follow-up felt like a real effort to get through. I think the TV show is trying to include events from the third book just to hurry things along. If they stayed completely faithful to the novels, it would take decades to film. |

I felt like the first three books were great, the fourth was somewhat lacking, and the fifth was half-interesting, half wtf. Why, Quentin Martell, why do I have to know who you are?
Seriously though, it's almost as if they're combining the second and third books completely, as it's really hard to see some of this stuff dragging out until its end point in the books. |

As someone who hasn't even read the books, I feel like some of the character development is shallow and the plot is jumping around too quickly. Qarth for example.
"Oh, it's the richest man in Qarth. I don't trust you. OK, now I trust you a little, but I won't marry you. OMG Where are my dragons? Did you steal them? You say you didn't. Oh wait, you did!" |

Blackwater was cool, but the siege was kind of lacking. Tywin showing up isn't nearly as interesting as "Renly's ghost" (Loras) rolling through at the head of the army and hitting Stannis in the rear. |

Last episode was muthafooking baus. I wanted a naval battle, but whatever, it was still awesome. The only problem I had was that the gore was just too over the top for me. |

I liked the fire... but the "secret gate rush" had me shaking my head. That force was far too easy to repel. |
