I'm putting together a computer from spare parts for a friend of mine. Currently I've got the DVD and CD/RW hooked up as primary master and slave and I have the hard drive as the secondary master.
The reason for this is that I'm lazy and it was just much easier to connect the cables this way. It works fine at the moment.
So, my question is, is there any reason that I'd want or need the hard drive as the primary master instead of the secondary master? Anything down the road going to foul up or does it really not matter? |

No, there's not any kind of issue. The machine doesn't care what channel the drives are on. You can make them any way you want.
You only need to make sure you are capable of booting the hard drive your operating system is on properly in the sequence of boot up.
Make them as want |

In some cases it does matter belive it or not, but those are far and few between.
In most cases you would be shunned by a professional IT technician for having the hard drive on the secondary IDE channel and not the primary channel. But thats just me. |

Yes, that's the point. Few and far between and there is little to no risk that the average home user will have any issue with those exceptions.
The standard is that the drive that will be your operating system (c drive is that it's the Primary Master.
But from a functional sense with modern systems, it doesn't matter
Of course once people start swapping drives on channels there is the need to start considering jumpers on the devices if it's not all top of the line equipment |
