I was really inspired when I saw @journal post "Foreign Guy Teaches English, in Korean" on this forum earlier this week. He does a really good job of explaining the mechanics of English consonants (i.e. place of articulation, how to form the mouth and lips, etc) and even more impressive are his Korean language abilities! Check out his post here:

http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=220926

I've also been making my own series of English videos, all of which are only 15 seconds long. They're aimed at Latin American ELLs, but you can use most of them for your Korean students.

If the above link doesn't work, try this one:

https://www.facebook.com/goVOXY/app_180499095383631

It covers topics such as: common grammar mistakes, pronunciation, US culture, functional language and other points as well. All the videos are labeled with hashtags, and the transcript is provided so that students can follow along.

I would love any comments or suggestions for improvement, and of course, you're free to use them in your own lessons. They can be used as a warm-up to a lesson, as part of your language presentation stage, or if you want to experiment with TBL (task-based learning), the videos can serve as an example for your students to imitate, assuming the objective is creating short instructional videos.

Thanks, and enjoy!

Sorry that you're having technical issues. They're not hosted on YouTube. It's on a platform called "Tout", but I assume your school has a Firewall that restricts social media sites and YouTube?

Sorry you got advertising. I hate ads! The original link works on most computers, but you could alternatively try this link:

The advantage of using video in the class room, over the teacher trying to get something across, is that you can actually show a social situation happening in a realistic setting, which the teacher can't replicate in the classroom. Thus you could show 2 people running into each other on the street and it'd be obvious they hadn't planned to meet or you could show a guy actually receiving a whisky with no ice in the pub. Your videos would be much better IMHO if they went that little bit further and did that.

@edwardcatflap -- That's an excellent suggestion! Some of the videos provide a little bit of context, but certainly not all them and not as well as they could have.

The 15 seconds that Tout allots really forces me to strip away too much explanation or acting, and I was happy that you mentioned the "run into" example. I actually had a scene of two people "running into" each other in a store, but the language they produced sounded so canned and unrealistic you'd swear it came from a textbook.

But really happy you brought up "more context" -- Just have to consider exactly how to do more in those 15 seconds.

Cheers!

No, that's not the issue. Also, there weren't ads. You misunderstood me.

The voxy link works, but it doesn't take me to anything "English" like. It is just a bunch of videos. Was this what you intended? Looked like there was a guy in Denmark in one of the videos that I clicked. I just couldn't connect the reason for the voxy link and this forum.

Perhaps there is a member account page at voxy you want us to see and you mistakenly linked us to the main voxy site.

Facebook and Youtube don't load here.

@YTMND -- Sorry for misunderstand your first post. Yep, those are the videos. There's no supporting text and navigation to speak of; it's simply a bunch of videos.

Thanks for watching one of the videos though. I think the Denmark one you mentioned was probably shot in a park in Queens.
