Though a bit dated, this is a series you might be interested in-- have used it in the past as a time filler and/or an intro to topic-based lessons. Easy enough to find, as it's a Pusan Nat'l Uni book. Aptly named Discussion Topics for Korean Students (in various forms-- high school, uni, etc)

Your example of 'smoking' got me remembering it, as it is one of the topics.
Another series is the Impact series by Pearson. I like these, as I use them for discussion/debating purposes. (Cosmetic surgery, drinking coworkers, computer obsessed bf's, etc)

I'm using "Cactus Junior Fusion" for my middle school discussion class~ It has a few build-up questions, a story about a subject or person, and then sections with questions about the senses used and information from the passage, followed by a bunch of thought questions. There are other books in the Cactus line as well~ |
