Here...
I work at an after school program and I have to come in Saturday. I first balked at my co-teacher when she said it and laughed and said I wasn't coming in, it's Saturday and I had plans! I know I can get off if I push it but then she would have to teach both her and my classes so I'm going to go in.

Sucks really. I'd rather come in tomorrow.

After school classes, unlike regular classes, can't be skipped. Someone (either the school or kids' parents) is paying for them. It's weird that they didn't just schedule the classes for a weekday, though.

I work at an after school program as well, and I've been told the classes will have to be made up somehow. I've been asked to make up classes on Saturdays a couple times before and have always said no, and we've just found another way to deal with it.

I've been at the same school for almost two years, and the first year I had some openings during the day, so we fit the classes in where we could. Now, my schedule is full. This time, it will come down to one of two things: a) my coordinator will cover the classes for me; I don't have a co-teacher, but my coordinator floats around to schools on different days, or b) working on Saturday will come up again. Not sure what my response will be this time around, obliging or not; depends on my mood, I guess.

But trust me, not all after school programs work like this. I have a Korean friend who has worked for a couple different companies, and she's never been expected to make up classes like I have (for classes missed on the school's anniversary day, etc.) or even work on non-mandatory holidays, like the election day a few months back, when I had to work, but she didn't.

It's definitely different from company to company. From what I've been able to piece together, missed classes slide in larger companies, but not so much in smaller, startup ones, like mine.

I am at an afterschool. Have to work on Saturday but I don't mind cause I want the money. No work = no pay. We are changing it to start at 9am hopefully, so that was will still have most of the day to enjoy.

No work = no pay? Is that what it would come down to for you? I know this is Korea, where things don't always make a whole lot of sense, but do you think it's justifiable to not pay a teacher due to classes missed as a result of a typhoon/tropical storm?

I know after school programs are a business, so the money we're paid with comes from the tuition parents pay to enroll their children, but if I refused to work on Saturday (my contract clearly states I don't have to) and my school/company said they weren't going to pay me, I'd be having none of it.

Its150,000w if I work it. Worthier to me right now cause I just got back from a summer off work, but if I wasn't into the money then I wouldn't work it. This is apart time job. No work= no pay. I knew that when I signed the contract
