Hi,

I have permission from my uni department to work a camp this summer, since I am not going anywhere during vacation time. Is it required for me to go to immigration, or what? The camp people did not seem too concerned about that, but I guess it is my worry in any case.

Anyone done this? I see there is a restriction that hours at the second job cannot exceed those of the primary job. Well, the camp is only 20 days, but the daily hours are a lot more than at my uni. However, I have heard that people do this kind of thing all the time.

Advice/instructions would be really appreciated...

thanks!

Assuming the camp can legally hire you:

Letter of permission from your employer
ARC
passport
application
fee (60k)
business registration from new employer (copy)
contract with new employer (copy).

Thanks for the info ttompatz.

Has anyone actually had a summer camp added to their visa? Or do people just do it under the radar? I don't want to hassle the camp people for their paperwork if I don't really need to. They did not offer to give me any documentation, although they are specifically hiring e-2 holders.

thanks,

I have no first hand experience.

Hearsay on the other hand (friends, friends of friends, and people who have come for help at the help center after the fact):

If the employer is not offering to get the documentation then most likely they are not authorized to have the camp (unregistered), do not have permission to hire foreigners (other than F2/4/5/6), and will likely cheat at the end (27% tax rates, unexplained deductions, etc).

Other issues come into play if you are one of the unfortunates who is discovered while working at one. As well as getting terminated and having to deal with immigration, black marks in your file complicate future dealings with immigration and visa issues.

Those employers who do provide the required documentation are usually fine.

OK, got the contract and docs...anyone wanna give me tips on drafting a letter from my boss to immi? I need to write it, get it translated and present it to him for signing. He doesn't want any extra hassle, which is fine...but I want to make sure I am writing what I need to write.

Also, do I need to get it signed by the the person named in my original E-2 contract (president of the whole uni) or can I just get the dean of my department to do it?

thanks for all the help!

I had a weekend camp added to my visa. I know I had to go to Immigration and get my current employer's permission. Luckily, the school sent someone with me that had all of the needed paperwork.
