Actually, according to the article, only Korean citizens have to do that.
That's racist, things should be equal. Everyone should get the once a year checkup, including foreigners. Obviously the Korean government is trying to smear every Korean as some insane lunatic. Why is it okay for non-citizens to not have to be suspected of being insane, but Koreans are subjected to this.

I assume you're being sarcastic but actually there are some apologists that will lament not being able to get their mental health check and be part of the herd. Gotta pity them the most of all, the desperate ones. Most Koreans can smell their desperation like I can no doubt. |

I've worked with a couple of "mental patients" both Korean and foreign. I'd be interested what is involved in the process of giving someone a mental checkup.
As an aside, I think that increasing vacation time for employees would help the mental health of the nation as a whole. A chance to choose when you want to take your vacation time would allow people to blow off some steam and spend more time with their loved ones. |

i know what the article says. and i can see the writing on the wall. don't worry rails, you'll get your test soon enough, then all things will be equal.LOL
but be very careful... it's the people who think they are the most well adjusted and NOT crazy that often score off the charts on these tests because they keep everything bottled up inside or else can't confront the ever widening gap that exists between the way the world IS and their conception of it.

just because they use the word citizens in the paper doesn't mean it's only for citizens. Remember, everyone in Korea on the national insurance is required to get a physical every year or two - this is probably the same deal. If you're on the NHIC, you'll probably get a call about this at some point. I wouldn't put ANY stock in the writing/translating ability of the KT.  |

Yeah and it's sad because a lessening of the stigma against counseling is something that really needs to change. All this is going to do is check people off and go "hey, you're ok, no need to come back!!!" |

I think it really depends on how it's carried out. It will probably be a throw-away for lots of people, but maybe it'll also be a way for the people who were afraid of the stigma to be able to go in for their "routine checkup" and get the help they need... |

They are going to LET people take the MANDATORY check-up? So... I guess that this means that people will have a choice in the matter (as long as they choose to do the check-up). |

If they enforce this rule for all residents, I would image the over 30 foreigner crowd is probably going to be shaking in their boots given that a good 3/4's of all the waygooks over the age of 30 in Korea are Tooty Fruity in more ways than one.
Seriously, I'd like to see the 'exam'...
It's probably like:
"Does Dokdo Belong to Korea?"
Answer 'yes' and your off Scot free... answer 'no' and you'll probably be lumped in with all the social misfits and outcasts in Korea, such as the Korean women who only date foreigners... |

This is the way I see it.
Korean Big Pharma wants to start pushing medication to a sector that is untouched. If Korean society can be medically assessed as needing some thing to reduce stress, that probably billions of won every year. Not long after, Koreans will be discovered to be every bit as depressed as the rest of the world. Trillions of won later in profits, Koreans will no longer be weirded out by foreigners that take meds.
Way to go Korea, fall for another western trap! You swallowed McDonalds whole up, now go after the meds! Good luck!
Anyone wanting to play the stocks better get in on the Korean Pharmaceuticals now before the mass profits come it! I gotta call my broker! |
