I tried searching a lot of information about this before making a post but I am still unsure of my options.
I was recently fired from my school and I will be receiving my letter of release (LOR) on July 20th. I am currently on an E-2 visa.
Now I want to go to school to study Korean full time. The problem I have is that the schools I am applying to start anywhere from September 3rd to the 25th. I also know I am allowed 30 days after my contract with my E2 visa before I have to leave the country--around August 20th. This amount of time is too short before the school would start.
If possible, I would like to avoid leaving the country.
My questions are:
Can I get a D10 visa and then transfer it into a D4 visa once school starts? I know D10 is usually to bridge E2 ---> E2 but can it be used for other things?
If I get a D4 visa then can I stay in the country prior to the school starting?
I have also considered asking my employer to not report that I am no longer working with the company until late August.
Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. |

The school you want to study at won't help you extend your visa? Have you talked to them and asked? |

Sorry the D-10 can not be used to transfer to a D4. The visa is used for working. So E-series visa yes. Student visas - nope.
More later... Need to get going. |

Another option worth looking at is the tourist visa option. Instead of transferring to a D-10, just transfer into a standard tourist visa. After transferring, look into getting a D-4 visa. I would talk to your school about this. |
