Hey everyone,

I'm gonna be heading over to SK at the end of the month. Just wondering in regards to internet, what is the price range? I know about basic internet (that's all the info I can find) but does anyone have any of the premium packages, specifically unlimited downloading??? How much of a dent would this be in my paycheck?

I don't think you can get a package in Korea that doesn't have unlimited downloading. Expect to pay 30-40,000 a month for faster Internet than you have in your home country.

cheap fast internet is one of the perks of SK Very Happy

one of the better service aspects which blow so many American companies out of the water - you'll receive a business card of your local service tek person who you can call if you ever experience an outage, modem failure, etc.

ALL packages have unrestricted downloading within the limit of your bandwidth (so if your chosen speed was 10mbps then you can download at 10mps 24/7).

Speeds vary from 5mbps on some of the cheap cable-TV/internet packages (15k won/month) to 30mbps as pretty much the standard (25k won/month) with 100mbps widely available (40k won) and FTTH (gigabit service) possible in newer hi-rise's and officetels.

Torrent heaven if that is what you are wondering about.

I pay 35 for internet, digital cable, and phone. Mine's Hello D, but I think they're all similar.

If you JUST want internet, it's cheap. Most of the special packages are for getting other stuff along with the internet. TV and phone are the most common. You can also get other stuff, like USB mobile modem, a special VOIP phone that you can use in other countries, a portable wifi device (the wifi egg).

If you have a smart phone, you can also get data plans on that and tether it to your computer.

But really, if you're only concern is downloading some TV shows and movies, then you can get by with the cheapest possible internet connection and it will still be a LOT better than anything available back home. Like others have said, I've never heard of a home internet connection that had a data limit. (On cell phones there are limited data plans.)

The US is bad in comparison to Korea, but Canada is like the seventh level of hell.

I have always had that included in my contract or done without at home so I've never paid for it.
