Hi,

So I asked a fingerprinting place in my area about fingerprint services. They said they don't provide the FBI fingerprint card. Instead, I was told to visit a local sheriff/police station. However, I called the local sheriff/police station and they told me they don't provide fingerprint cards. I was told that the employment agency or whoever wants a criminal background check should provide the fingerprint card.

So would I have to work with a recruiter/school first and then they'd give me a fingerprint card? Kinda sucks cause I wanted to get a head start on the criminal background check

No, it doesn't work that way at all, and if you ask a recruiter for a fingerprint card they're more than likely going to have no idea what you're talking about.

You have two options:

You can print the fingerprint card yourself, bring it to the police station, and have them fingerprint you: http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/background-checks/standard-fingerprint-form-fd-258. Regular printer paper is fine.

Alternatively, you can just go into your police station and have them fingerprint you on whatever they typically use. The FBI fingerprint card is more of a template, more useful if you're abroad than if you're back home. I used a Massachusetts State Police fingerprint card and didn't have any issue.

My police barracks told me the same thing, went in anyway and low and behold they DID have the cards. They were just trying to blow me off, might be doing the same to you.

Are you sure there wasn't miscommunication with you asking them if they had FBI fingerprint cards, which they typically do not? I'm not accusing you, just wondering if this might be the problem, as I can't imagine any police department, regardless of how small it is, not having fingerprint cards.

Ask if they have Livescan. Anywhere that can do Livescan can print up your prints for you on the standard form. You want a technician to do it, so you don't wait 6-8 weeks just to find out they won't accept your prints.
