Who going? Looking for info from people who have been to this before.
I'm not dreading it as much as I thought I would. Fresh air and getting out of the city will be nice.
Thoughts? |

This is what they're calling orientation now? Expect to hear all about kimchi, soju, maybe Dokdo, and a bunch of college profs who have never taught at a public school will tell you how simple it is to teach at a public school.
You'll hear "80-20" but no one will ever explain it. Just grin and bear it, and get drunk like everyone else. |

Orientations happen at the beginning of each semester, I wasn't required to attend this year because this is my 4th year teaching at a high school, but first year with GEPIK.
Getting drunk with everyone would be nice except in the information package sent to everyone, it is stated several times that alcohol consumption is strictly forbidden. AND, if you're caught drinking, you will be sent home and your school will be notified. |

Not this time, my friend. They've changed the venue and alcohol is strictly prohibited. But the rest is probably accurate.
OP, expect anything but actual, useful training (although some things here and there are helpful). Might be paired up with a partner to make a lesson plan and do a demo the next day. That varies, though. Sometimes you just discuss how you would do the lesson as there are pretty much zero resources for you to use.
And not sure about the fresh air. Most of it is indoors. Though, there are some breaks, and there's time after all the lectures are finished to go out. At the last venue, it was nice to get out, but don't know about this one.
There are two redeeming things about this workshop:
1. You get a few days break from your teaching routine.
2. You get the chance to meet and mingle with other foreigners. |

Right. If you're going to a plus meeting it means you've already been to the (or an) orientation before. But they're pretty much the same thing. |

I remember hearing about required "training time" during the school year at the GEPIK orientation... I take it this is somehow related and something the coordinator for my area has failed to send out...? What info do you have about it? |

No, that's not interesting at all.
...AND this thread IS NOT about new teacher orientation. |

Interesting is a relative term ...
I haven't seen anything on here specifically about new teacher orientation. Thanks for playing though. Although many new teachers must attend so it is related, which can also be ascertained from a previous quote.

Actually, under the video screen from the link you posted it says:

A little rant about some of the English teachers I met at the 2012 GEPIK Orientation. |
OP is asking about the Plus Workshop. (Not that there's a significant difference.) |

Either they will tell (or have told) you at the last minute or they'll send you to it next time it's offered. |

Wasn't some NT raped at one a few years back? Hence the no alcohol ban?
Believe it or not they aren't as bad as they used to be. They used to be 2 weeks long.
At the end of it people were so stir crazy there were fist fights, and fire extinguishers let off under the cracks of room doors. |
