*****SPOILERS****************************************
I just watched the final episode of season one 3 nights ago, and like most people, did not see the it coming(talking about Creighton), even though I had looked ahead on IMDB and saw that John Goodman was not on the show past season 1(I figured he would die from a heart attack or something). I was left wondering, to say the least, and have thought a lot the last few days about the way it was handled.
My verdict - Ingenious!
*****SPOILERS****************************************
I liked how there were no cliche overt outward signs of his intentions, which is the case in many(I'm not saying all or even most)situations where someone takes their own life. We only see someone who seemingly has so much going for them. After the deed is done, we look back and try to analyze their actions to see if there was something we should have seen, something we may have missed.
And after the initial shock, the recriminations from his wife.
It reminded me of Six Feet Under, and how well that show portrayed the vagaries of death.
Anyway, great show, looking forward to season 2.

I heard good things about it and saw that the writers from the Wire wrote it so I checked it out, but couldn't get through the first episode. I just didn't feel it at the time I guess. Maybe I should give it another go. |

Ya know, you are not the first person I have heard say that. But since I don't have HBO, I watched it on DVD, and since there were 3 episodes on the first disc, I watched them all, and was hooked. |

Excellent show. If you liked the first season, the second will not disappoint.
You will notice that in the second season, it shows a much darker side of
New Orleans. |

Life more or less was put on hold while I watched The Wire. I've watched a number of interviews with David Simon who's something of a hero really.
I loved the opening scene of Treme with the music etc but then the series totally went dead. No explanation for my sinking interest but it happened............. |

Not quite as good as The Wire but nothing ever will be. It filled a hole in my life for a few weeks watching an episode everyday.
Now, if you want high class drama then I suggest 'The Bridge' . It's a Danish/Swedish (English subs) work that can be found in the usual places. Believe me this is tense, dark and gripping stuff. |

I don't know. It was just too slow, and nothing of importance really seems to happen. Nothing seems to happen at all actually. In the Wire I knew they were cops trying to catch bad guys from the get go but here its like random people living life. Maybe I was expecting the Wire and got disappointed. |

Die-hard fan of The Wire and I have seen both seasons of Treme. Learning more about the music and genuine culture of a great US city that was nearly destroyed has been pretty cool, but it's a PAINFULLY slow show.
However, there are some incredible stand-out moments that are up there with the best scenes in television I've ever witnessed, my favorite being the standoff/showdown between the two Indian crews in season one.
Posting this also reminded me of the scene very early on in season one where the big chief suits up to keep the bar open for their practice...first time watching didn't realize what a big deal it was for him to put that on. |

Great post - thanks for the recommendation on 'The Bridge'. I'm on my third show of the previous season and it's a really intriguing one to watch.
Great cinematography, plot and a dryness to it that reminds me a bit of 'Fargo' (yeah, that northern European thing). Cool soundtrack also. |
