Hi! I'm a Newfie working in Korea...well, I'm on vacation now, but I'll be back in 2 days....I'm just wondering how many of us have given up Nan's baloney to come to this country...where everyone is located now, and where they are from...
I'm from Corner Brook, working in Cheongju. |

Wish I was, but I'm only a half-breed. |

Korea's overrun with them. They breed, you know...
...actually I rather like them. And the 50 Newfies standing behind me right now had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with that statement.

I've run into a handful, there's the Newfie run hagwon in Chung ju. (Isn't that a scary thought? Koreans saying "yes,by!") They're around but I think when you're on the other side of the world, regionalism is a bit out of place.
That said, get back on your own side of the overpass, and leave George Street for me! |

I know several in Seoul. I haven't seen any here in Busan, although there aren't many Mary Brown's where I might spot them.
I lived in St. John's for five years before returning reluctantly to Alberta. When I still couldn't find work, I came here... how sad is that... I still miss the place, Salmon festivals, regattas, George street, nasty townies, lineups at the Breezeway, and all.

Nfld and Labrador got to have the highest percentage of good people per capita of any place in the world. Met about 30 in me life to date. All are super nice and well-mannered folks. They can handle their brews and Screech as well. Wicked good writers who can hang with just about anybody.
I'd go there in a heart-beat for a year if I could afford to do so. |

Ah thanks for the kind words. I'm a Newf and happy about it as I know many good folks are there. My family is a good example. They were dysfunctional for sure but tried to be kind, and we still hold those old small town values dear. I've been surprised a few times. Sometimes you get that rolling eyes expression, but other times ya get, hey, cool, when mentioning your roots.
This is pride for me, to mention my small hometown and their role in what happened 9/11..a story about it will be on NBC for Vancouver 2010 Olympics, so I have heard. Won't see it anyway myself/
