I really need someone to help me sort out this headache.
So, I'm coming to the end of my trail at my current school and am finding that I need a copy of my contract for a few reasons (applying for a D-10, a visit to the pension office soon after...). Problem is, I don't have one. Apparently neither does my boss.
What happened was this: When I first signed and sent off the contract for my school, I asked for a copy of it after the principal signed it. She mysteriously could not find the time to make a copy no matter how many times I asked for the first month and a half of my contract -- at which time she sold the school practically overnight, stole anything not nailed down, and high tailed it to another part of the country.
She left her files in total disarray, and if there ever was a copy of my contract there, no one can locate it. I never signed another contract with the current principal, and of course I have the copy of the contract with MY signature but. Well, that doesn't exactly prove anything, does it?
So, what am I supposed to do here? Show Immi/the pension office the copy with my signature and hope they don't think I'm trying to pull a fast one? Get the current principal to sign the same contract (and maybe backdate it)? Immi should have the original contract, right? But I guess there's no way to get that back from them.
Help? |

Immi should have a copy of the contract. Go to them and pay the copy fee of 100won per page and get copies of it and well, while you're there, everything else they have!
Let this be a lesson to you and everyone else. Have copies of everything you sign! Always have your original documents returned to you (degree, contract, etc) after your boss returns from the immi office. If you don't have time or a place to copy a document you receive, snap a photo of it with that 8MP camera in your smart phone!
I scan every document I have into my PC. I even have scans of the business certificates of my hawgwons and schools. Trust me, if things go south, you want to be prepared for anything.
On that note, keep a fully charged MP3 player on hand if things between you and your co-teacher / director are getting sour. Use it or your phone to discretely record these conversions. Often, they will say "I don't remember" and that will automatically dismiss the topic.
I've said it a number of times. Cover Your A$$! |

Wow, that's a relief. Thanks!
You're right, I definitely should have been more proactive and insisted on getting a copy more forcefully. Well, I'll certainly be doing that next time (and I guess there are worse consequences for first year stupidity than a 45 minute trip to immi and a few hundred won for copies). |
