My wife and I wanna hang out on the beach, eat good cheap food, and see some stunning nature. The Philippines, especially Palawan, seems to fit what we wanna do.

Can we rent a car for a reasonable price?
Where are the best cheap accommodations?
Is a flight or ferry better to take to El Nido?

Any other useful information will be helpful thanks.

Haven't been there, personally, but Lonely Planet is helpful in this realm: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/philippines/palawan/transport/getting-there-away.

Rent a car as in u-drive = NO.
Rent a car as in car and driver = yes. p1500-3000/day + fuel.

I don't do cheap so I can't help you.

Most just suffer the van ride north from Puerto Princesa unless you can afford to charter a small plane or hire a pump-boat/banka.

For beaches, nice people, stunning scenery and inexpensive accommodation I would like to recommend the island of Siquijor. Easy to get to, just fly to Dumaguete and take the ferry. http://wikitravel.org/en/Siquijor The cheapest rates at Coral Cay are 850 pesos, but it is a top place with a poolhttp://www.coralcayresort.com/index.html

Coron is supposed to be the next big tourist resort in the Phils. Hit that place before it gets all touristy.

I've also heard good things about Camuigan Island and Port Barton in Palawan. So many islands, so little time!

Camiguin is OK but the beaches are nothing to write home about.

You are correct about so many islands and so little time.

If you went to a different island every day it would still take almost 20 years to visit them all.
