Just curious as to which tablet PC is preferred by people on this board. The iPad 3 just came out in Korea but I hear Android models like the Samsung Galaxy Tab are better (though lacking in battery life). |

My girlfriend has the Ipad 2. She regrets it and I don't think I'll ever get one. |

Have a laptop and an iPhone - don't need a tablet. |

Why the regret? I hear the iPad's battery lasts a long time but you cannot replace it. |

I have the Toshiba Thrive and have never regretted it.
It has usb storage capabilities which you don't get with most other tablets and this allows e to plug in a flash drive in order to quickly adjust a document for work and then quickly save and eject.
Also the if you're looking at it from an app point of view then it's pointless because the android app store and the apple app store are both equally full of pointless crap.
You'll more than likely be able to find the apps you need for both.
The other features that the Thrive has that some don't that I utilize are a HDMI output in order to plug in personal movies from it, a SD card input (but then again a lot of the tablets have this). |

I hear the Thrive is heavy and has a rather awkward design. I do like the fact that it has a replaceable battery, though I hear an iPad battery lasts way longer. |

I bought my wife an off contract samsung galaxy 8.9 inch tablet. Works great! The thing I like about android tablets is having DMB as well as being able to use flashwebsites and easily stream movies that use flash players. Something iOS devices cant do...
So for my wife's needs its more than enough for her.
Only thing is I wish it would be ever so slightly faster sometimes BUT I feel the same about most tablets out there anyways.. Tablets will be really good in the next few years though =).

She still has uses for it. We just think she should've waited for the Galaxy 10 or whatever (the big one) to come out. |

I do not know how it is awkward. I like holding something that actually has some mass. I mean in all actuality nothing is going to be the same weight as a phone, but the Thrive is still manageable with one hand.
The replaceable battery is nice. Especially in Korea. I'll burn a few tv shows to a couple flash drives before train rides or bus rides and take two charged batteries and if I don't have a chance to charge before the return trip (usually if I'm heading out of town for a 10K) then i can quickly just pop in the new battery. |

I've been looking at tablets lately.
Yesterday I tried both the new I-pad 3 in Itaewon... (they still had 3 or 4 left late last night at closing), and I also tried the new Acer Iconia (can't remember if it's the newest one that was just released in the USA a few days ago or not). That Aconia was at Cheongyanmni station Lotte Mart/Toys R Us.
The newer I-pads had been sitting there with nobody using them (there were 3 or 4) and I picked a few up -- they were all VERY warm. Warm enough that I wouldn't find it comfortable to surf with and hold for a long period. This immediately turned me off on the newest I-pad compared to the old one. Yes, the screen was nice, but honestly, not so much nicer than the old I-pad that I would feel bad going with the old one. I tried various sites, Youtube in HD (looked really great) and photos of varying resolutions. I just wasn't sold on the need for the better screen, because within a few seconds of looking, you forget about the quality difference.
As for the Acer, I was pleasantly surprised by its usefulness as a surfing device, but the screen is still not Apple level. It isn't very bright, and like many devices non-Apple, looks like there's a thin film over it that makes it less inviting or something. I was surprised that the Iconia had a much better touch response than expected. Still only about 75% of what an Apple screen touch response would be, though. |

I've got an Acer Iconia A500 that I picked up for 400'000 almost a year ago. Wifi only. I use it for reading, surfing, email and games, and it does all those things just fine. I have a lot of ebooks in PDF format, and it handles those excellently.
I thought I'd be using the USB port a lot, but I just share everything on my laptop and desktop over my wireless network at home. It's still nice to have should the need arise, and something I think every tablet manufacturer should do their best to include since it really does seem like such a simple thing to add to a tablet.
It's a bit heavy tablet-wise, but I'm of freakishly large proportion, so not an issue for me.
The screen is beautiful, but too glossy, and getting a matte screen protector on a ten inch screen was an exercise in frustration that ended up with me turfing the !@#$^%# thing. Still no scratches after nearly a year of mild-heavy use depending on how much reading I was doing at any given time. |
