What is the typical contract these days? A couple of years ago when I was investigating jobs in Korea, it seemed pretty standard to be offered a week's vacation.

Recently, I've been sent a couple of contracts to look over. One started too soon, so I couldn't take that job but it listed vacation time as "up to the discretion of the school." Yadayadayada. In affect, it seemed liked that would have been an uphill battle. The other contract stated that ONLY national holidays were paid vacation days. It also stated that any sick time would have to be accompanied by a doctor's excuse. Didn't seem like a pleasant place to work. Also, it was a split shift job.

So, my question is: What gives?

Is this the norm now? Just wondering so if or when my next "offer" comes I'll know what to expect.

Hagwon, about 10 days.
Public school, about 20 days.

Half in winter, half in summer.
