Sex-crime victim could be jailed for tweeting her attackers' names
A Kentucky girl who was sexually assaulted now faces jail time for talking about it publicly.
Savannah Dietrich, 17, could be locked up on contempt-of-court charges for tweeting the names of her attackers after they allegedly got a sweetheart plea bargain, according to a published report.
Dietrich, who was molested while passed out at a party by the sick creeps, told the Louisville Courier-Journal newspaper that she was outraged because the boys were given a deal that she thinks is very, very light.
The judge in the case had further protected the sex fiends by placing a gag order that barred Dietrich from talking about what happened to her.

It seems the names of the attackers are Will Frey and Austin Zehnder of Louisville, Kentucky. The judge's information and pictures of the rapists can be found here.

So, is this outrageous, or am I overreacting?

Not sure I like the wording of the article, but yeah, it does seem pretty outrageous.

If someone does what they did, they deserve to have their name shouted from the rooftop, IMO.

Probably won't stand in court due to 1st Amendment issues - the names would have been public record soon anyways. Hopefully some lawyer takes the case pro-bono.

What the girl did was pretty eff-ing stupid though.

Here's a better article about the case.

Quote:
Dietrich said she was sexually assaulted by two teen boys she knew in August 2011. She had been drinking at a gathering, she said, and became unconscious. Months later she learned that pictures of the incident had been taken and shared with others.

That makes me wonder whether her First Amendment rights are really being unfairly restricted or the boys were the victims of another girl-says-yes-while-drunk-but-changes-her-mind-after-sobering-up. Maybe that's why the sentence seemed like a slap on the wrist?

Ok, now we need to see pictures... to see if it was consensual, of course!

The boys did plead guilty.... regardless of whether or not it was because of the plea bargain, they will live the rest of their lives as registered sex offenders and have felonies on their records.

Their punishment now may not be bad, but in 5-10 years when they are trying to get jobs, they'll be in for quite a shock when Wal-Mart and McDonald's turn them down.
