|
|
My girlfriend's passport has been lost/stolen (we're not sure), and she's due to fly to Japan for a vacation in just over two weeks. We've looked online and found some info about the Emergency Travel Document that can be issued by the British Embassy, but there's two things that we're not clear on:
1. Can this be used to travel to a country other than the UK?
2. Does having a vacation booked and a lost passport count as a good enough reason to have one of these issued, or should she embellish her story a bit?
Thanks for any info anyone can give, obviously it's a nervous wait until Monday to find out any information from the embassy! |

I'm sceptical that Japan would let you in without a passport. They are very careful.
Sorry about that, horrible losing a passport, traveller's nightmare. |

Just for the benefit of anyone this happens to in the future and finds this thread: the British Embassy was able to issue an Emergency Travel Document, you just need to get a lost property report from the police, prove that you booked the vacation before the date you lost the passport and hand over 200,000 won. |

So you answered questions #2 but not question #1.

Just in case anyone is wondering, I know that the U.S. embassy can issue emergency replacement passports in situations such as the OP described. The decision to issue such a passport is left largely at the discretion of the embassy worker and depends upon the specific situation and and probably other factors, but it can be done. |

Yes, it's to travel to Japan and then return to Korea. |
