OK, this one looks like a biggy.

http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/wp201215_5day.html

There is a possibility of:

-lawn chairs falling over
-comfortable breezes
-cooling rain
-and, this is yet unconfirmed, 24-hour Korean news coverage. Be prepared for this. This will probably be the worst aspect.

Because 12 dead is nothing more than a lawn chair falling over...

what a funny joke. You should try to get on Gag Concert.

I mean look at that breeze. It's almost like it just playfully tickled the country.

Yesterdays weather has really shown the true nature of some people here. I was shocked by how many seemed disappointed there wasn't more carnage.

Stop joking! I heard (KBS News!) that they might upgrade it from a tropical storm to a Cat 5 Super Tyhoon.

It's packing winds of 35 knots right now. I can even see a flag moving. Do you know what happens when flags move??

Quite clearly you've never been in a super typhoon, or you wouldn't think the whole thing so hilarious.

It looks powerful enough to do some real damage.

I just read on MBC news that this storm will be more notorious for heavy rain rather than strong winds.

thats what the 607th weather squadron at Yongsan seems to be concerned about. We'll likely get much more rain out of this than yesterday's storm.

Joke as the rest of you might but yesterdays storm did do a bit of damage down south, lots of people without electricity 20 odd people dead, lots of agricultural damage down south. I was out jogging today around Itaewon and there are a lot of small branches and leaves down along with unripened fruits from those trees

Without the warnings and school closures etc, the injury/fatality total could have been much higher, people were smart in staying in. Personally I think the Korean gov't handled this one quite well compared to other storms hitting (anybody remember that massive snowstorm the KMA failed to predict a couple of winters ago?)

Now if we can get the Korea Herald on things, anybody see todays paper, what was in bold headlines above the fold?? the storm?? nope something about Dokdo :facepalm!!!

I loved this part of the article:

Quote:
Demand for newspapers exploded as they are known to be effective means of preventing windows from breaking when pummeled by powerful winds.

Incredible that they believe that load of bs

from the noaa hurricane prep page

Quote:
Cover all of your homes windows. Permanent storm shutters offer the best protection for windows. A second option is to board up windows with 5/8 marine plywood, cut to fit and ready to install. Tape does not prevent windows from breaking

NO PLACE I READ from Miami-Dade County, to the NHC, to the State of Florida recommends taping or putting newspaper over windows to keep them from breaking

The again this coming from the people who believe fan death is real and kimchi stops AIDS and prevents SARS Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Pretty sure the point of tape isn't to stop the windows from breaking but to prevent the glass from shattering everywhere. ie. car windshield. I believe they think that newspaper will have the same effect.

Panicked public

Today in Emart was chaos. People banging shopping carts into one another, eating all the free food samples like no tomorrow, shouting from one end of the supermarket to the other. Cars cutting each other off in desperation to get into the car park faster than each other. Horns. Crashing. Farting. Old people pushing, shoving and cursing to get to that 10 won off discounted dried seaweed - reeking of alcohol (presumably to calm nerves) and then promptly vomiting it up outside. Neglecting to flush the recently deposited poo in the public toilets (desperation to get back to the storm shelter ASAP?). Kids fighting. Lots of people yelling "Hurry! Hurry!" at the cashiers. I had to retire to the deodorant section just to get some peace and quiet.

Surely it has to be Super Typhoon Tembin induced panic buying.....?

Right?

??

Hello?
