I don't know Steve personally, but this has been going around facebook.

Since the community of foreigners is small and social networking is a powerful tool, why not use it to help this unfortunate guy out.

Steve needs your help!

On July 20th at approximately Midnight between Club NB & Dunkin Donuts next to Gangnam Station, Steven Scarr was assaulted by an English-speaking Asian (American), whom claimed to be Chinese-American. This guy was roughly 58 tall and roughly 140-150 lbs. He wore glasses and had short hair. He was wearing blue jeans and a black V-neck t-shirt. This man quickly fled from the scene after the assault.

This man was with a large group of friends, consisting of four Asian-looking girls and two to three guys (one being a tall Caucasian man with brown hair, approximately 63).

Due to the severity of the incident, the Police and Canadian Embassy are currently investigating the assault because Steve Scarr suffered a major head trauma. He was rushed to Gangnam Severance Hospital where he is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Due to this injury, Steve is suffering from a cerebral hemorrhage that will require extensive surgeries that will probably cost over W20,000,000.

The police in Seocho-gu have currently opened up a full investigation and reviewing street video that recorded the assault on video and are interviewing surrounding businesses. Due to the investigation, we are not allowed to post video or photography related to the investigation.

We know that the English-speaking community is a pretty small world where everyone seems to know everyone. Its a bit of three degrees of separation, so we are hoping that social media might benefit in this case. We ask that if you know anything about this unfortunate event to please contact [email protected].

Please Help Steve. He's currently at Gangnam Severance Hospital suffering from a Cerebral Hemorrhage due to an assault on Friday, July 20th near Gangnam Station. If you know anything about the guy who attacked Steve, please contact [email protected] with any tips or leads.

We've raised W1,000,000 Cash Reward for the person who helps us find this guy! Please pass along to everyone you know! Thank you so much.

Not sure if i can link the facebook group here or not, but it has all the pertinent information...

Due to trying to find the guy, you can't post pictures or videos of the guy? Doesn't make sense. I know Korea has strict anti-defamation laws, but I've seen lots of "wanted" posters with video stills, looking for the public's help.

pictures are at the facebook group.

The statement you read means you they can't post photos of the immediate incident... not of the guy in general

I've heard that CCTV is everywhere here. Unless your life is threatened there isn't a good reason to fight. If either of the people fighting ends up in the hospital, they both lose. Hope the guy recovers fully

Unfortunately it is entirely possible that the attacker has already flown out of the country.

I don't see much reason for a Chinese-American guy to be here for more than a fun stopover between flights.

Yeah, because there clearly aren't any Chinese-Americans teaching English. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

no need to troll this thread...

derogatory comments toward Korea, Koreans, Americans, or in fact anyone is completely uncalled for.

I'm trying to do something positive here.

Use social networking for something other than trolling, bragging, complaining, etc.

Please just post if you have something nice or constructive to say... otherwise you end up just looking like an inconsiderate person.

Was he or was he not Chinese-American? I guess if he said he was then he was.

Do those little hidden personal cameras actually work or are they useful. I've always wondered about that.

Is there any additional information? Did Mr.Scarr appear to have met this guy before? Or did the guy just walk up to him and start beating on him?

Whenever I do something sketchy I always shout out that I am Canadian. I am not Canadian. This assailant could have given you false info.

It is a shame he is hurt. Still some details of the events would be nice.

Really, on posting pictures of the assailant?

So here is the story from his friend (can be found on the facebook group)

This started because the guy (whom is being searched for) flipped us off as we were walking down the street and we asked him why he felt the need to do so. We got into a brief verbal argument but all decided to let it go. As we were walking toward the street to get cabs, the guy ran back and sucker punched Steve twice and Steve fell and hit his head on the street, which caused him to become unconscious.

In this case, the person whom we are looking for instigated it and then chose to come back when we were willing to simply forget about him flipping us off for no apparent reason except to possibly act like a tough guy in front of the four girls he was with.

After he attacked Steve, one of our friends chased him down (who is a u.s. licensed attorney) and told him that it probably isn't the best idea to be fleeing the scene of a crime and that he should come back so we can sort everything out. However, he and his friends ran off. In Korea, I know that in this event, people will often hold on or tackle a person who is trying to flee but in this case, this guy was with several other guys. The rest of us were back with Steve calling 119 and looking after him.
