|
|
Hello,
I have read through many sites and I have read the motorcycle thread on this site, but I am unclear about the specific topic in my subject line.
I currently do not have any Korean licenses. I am going to buy a 250 or 400cc bike. I know that they give a motorcycle endorsement on the general Korean license, but must I first go through the trouble of going to a DMV to get the general license, or can I go straight to the motorcycle test and if I pass it they will give me a license on the spot? I am an American citizen, so the process of getting an apostille on my American license before going to the Korean DMV is a pain.
Thanks for the info. |

You must get the regular license first. You may need to visit your embassy for certification of your home license. Also, you won't be able to get your regular license and take the motorcycle test on the same day. After you get your license, then you can sign up for future dates.

I have the department of transport booklet infront of me and nowhere does it say you need any other license to get a 125cc or bigger category motorcycle license.

You can get a motorcycle license without a regular license. Unless this has changed in the last 2 years.
A friend of mine has his motorcycle endorsement for 250cc+ bikes but no car endorsement.
But as with many things in Korea it sometimes depends on the person behind the desk.
The easiest thing to do however is to exchange your license from your home country, get a Korean license to drive cars then take the road test for motorcycles. From what my friend told me, he had to go through almost as much to get his motorcycle license (without having transferred his western license) as he would have if he'd gotten both endorsements. I think he was able to get out of the road test (car) but still had to sit in class then take the written test before being able to take his bike road test. I had no classes to take and simply traded my license for a Korean one then hopped on a bike and took my bike road test. |

This is the DLA website.

This part shows what you need to do to get a specific type of license.
If you look at the section titled "other information", you can see what you can drive with what type of license.
So, yes, you can get a motorcycle only license. Age is 16 and older. Watch the safety video, do the eye tests, fill out the papers, etc, take the course test and you're done. |

Got my motorcycle-only license 3 months ago. You do have to pass the computer test for cars and then you can do the motorcycle driving exam. Computer test has English. |

Are there any motorcycle hagwons in or near Mok-Dong? I want to upgrade to a 250cc bike and I want to practice the test course. |

Ask your motorbike-bang owner. He'll set you up with his connection. When you go, you tell them so-and-so recommanded this place, they'll take care of you. |
